This is the third article in a series on Death, Transmutation, and Rebirth for creative entrepreneurs. You can read the first articles, Create Your Best World Outside Your Comfort Zone, and Seeing the Light: Transmute Raw Energy Into Your Great Work here.
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.
– H.P. Lovecraft
There is no rebirth without death, and death is something we all fear. For a reason. Our instincts are finely tuned as mammals to be afraid of the things that will put us in danger or even kill us. There is a huge issue though when we let that same fear trigger dictate our every move in life. You see it running rampant today as everyone voices their strong opinions to the masses through social media, creating a never-ending reciprocal echo-chamber of our known fears.
I’ve learned that the single, most destructive block to living the way we envision is fear. Fear of failure, fear of not enough money, fear of what other people will think. If you look at all of these statements, the common element present is that NONE OF THEM ACTUALLY EXIST. They are made-up constructs put into our heads to keep us believing the status quo and keep our heads down.
Rising above this starts with a specific kind of courage. Not the “can-do” attitude that is so commonly associated with success but a willingness to not let fear of the unknown run your life. It’s a particularly imprisoning mindset that you need to shed in order to move forward.
Fear of the unknown is at the heart of our struggles. When you step out of your comfort zone willingly (as you should), there are almost nothing but unknowns, but this is what is crucial for building the kind of life you feel is possible. Like that glow you find deep down under all the conditioning, the world of the unknown should be given space to smolder and do it’s work.
What is known is the model that has come before you, the system tells you to stay in line, march with the masses in the same direction if you are to know “freedom” and “wealth.” This has carried over to the online business world in extreme saturation. If you want to take the beautiful work you’ve transmuted from raw energy and turn it into your livelihood, there’s a world of frameworks that came before you already attempting to ensnare you in their programmatic formula.
Don’t fall victim to this. In the end, all that matters is how you create your world through intelligent maneuvering and a deliberate change in perception.
The connections you make and lessons you learn along with others is also how you will create a higher vibration for everyone involved. Finding the people who are tuned in to the same wavelength as you is also key to moving forward with these “dreams” that you have. I use quotes around “dreams” because they are really visions you have that can, with deliberate practice, become reality.
Here are some points to help your unearthing go more smoothly.
Platitudes alone will not get you further
You could fill the Grand Canyon with the cliché concepts touted by new-age types that swear they have the answer and if you just listen to them and follow their plan, you too will find the inner peace you seek. I will not carry on this tradition and instead encourage you to come up with your own moral compass and develop the statements you live your own life by.
Your intuition should be your highest governing body, not your support group, your colleagues, or your business mentor. I’ve so far worked with numerous creatives that have had a fantastic idea for their livelihood (or hell, their life), and then, upon a few internet research sessions, are conditioned into thinking they have to follow the online business model that is already over-saturated.
After all your hard work of getting outside your comfort zone and transmuting that raw energy, the last thing you want to do is try and squeeze those benevolent inclinations you’ve developed into someone else’s model. Especially if it goes along with what everyone else is doing. As I’ve said many times before, you have to blaze your own path if you want to get to where you’re going.
There is no one out there that can tell you exactly how to do this, but I do highly recommend you get some serious guidance on your path from those you trust.
Trade your gifts with those you trust
This year has been full of this for me, and it is the most satisfying exchange of energy, trumping the exchange of money for services any day! Through my own work, I attracted some extremely in-tune souls that are operating on the same wavelength as myself. We feel the same call of duty in that we help each other out in the ways that come most natural to us. This systematically raises each individual up at the same time, putting each of us and the whole on a beneficent trajectory.
When you perform a service like readings, design, performance, writing, or creating a piece of artwork and it seems effortless yet leaves those around you breathless and in awe, this is your GIFT. It is what you are meant to be sharing with the world and how you can best contribute to the collective evolution of our society.
This is how you will hone your skills so you can eventually charge dollars for them from strangers/future friends. So trade with each other and do it often. Experience is the best teacher. You have the freedom to test your ideas and iterate on them before pulling it into a shiny package or offering for your people. After all, it’s effortless and even fun for everyone involved, so why not?
I realize that our current economy is not run on this kind of energy alone. We are unfortunately tied up in a system that doesn’t allow for this yet and instead runs on the system of numbers we all agree on called currency.
Balance your karmic work with “money” work
The most important aspect to remember when doing this is to intentionally find money work that doesn’t suck your soul out completely. It’s an outdated model and only part of the conditioning we’ve received that says you have to suffer to earn money. Look for the type of work that doesn’t zap your mental energy and let’s you focus on your Great Work as well. Double points if it feeds into your actual work.
Always make what you are deeply called to do the main priority in your days. If you are in a situation that has you being a slave to your job that makes you unhappy, change it (see Get Outside of Your Comfort Zone)! Downsize your life, live more simply, and get away from the runaround that is modern life as much as possible. It actually isn’t that complicated to live and exist if you get creative. And I’m certain if you’re reading this, you are.
There are currently a plethora of ways to do this now thanks to technology and the non-conforming work ethic of the millennials. If you have a car, an extra room in your place, or have decent skills at social media/writing, you can find gigs that pay your bills and don’t require your utmost attention.
Rearrange your life in a way that supports your base needs with money work while fulfilling your sense of duty with your karmic work. If you are wanting to thrive as the best possible version of yourself, these changes will come naturally and make sense as you go along.
Nothing good ever came from fear
It’s true. When is the last time you remember someone becoming successful or living a full life because they were afraid of everything?
Let me cover both sides by saying it is OK to be afraid. It is, after all, a driving biological force in our makeup. The key is to let it direct your work, not control your every move and enslave you to it. Treat your fear as that silly little trickster inside you that tests your will and pushes you further on your path to your Great Work.
What you are afraid of is a definite signpost for the kind of personal and material work you should be doing.
Let’s take the fear of not enough money. I’ve been here many times (hell, still am), especially after leaping off the cliff of my comfort zone early this year. I started noticing that no amount of worrying or strategy in a material way was paying off. I was being offered an opportunity to approach this from a different perspective. Through multiple events, I started noticing that fearing the lack of money was actually making the problem bigger.
This is how I started with true Mercurial/Money magic, a way of seeing and thinking about money that has no hold on our personal value or worth. Separating my association of lack of money with my inherent self-worth has been crucial to letting this airy nature of currency flow more. It’s still a work in progress, but I’ve already been shown extreme improvement both in my anxiety levels and my bank account.
Being reborn from the ashes of your former self takes time, grit, discipline, and one hell of a sense of humor. Uncovering the unknowns in your character is never easy, but it will be incredibly fun and gratifying on the other side. Remember to set a place at the table for your fear of the unknown. He’ll still be hanging around, but you’re the ultimate host at this dinner party.
This process is not to be taken lightly. If you are wanting to go deeper with this work to uncover what makes you unique and how you can share that with the world, I’m here to provide sage guidance that will set you on the right path. Find out more about Collaborative Synergy sessions with me here.
